The Plus Size Stigma

The term ‘Plus size’ may refer to some that just a simple clothing range or a section in  the store. But to those who shop with in it, it can feel some what different. After reading Style.Mic’s article on how women felt about the term plus size, its just proven the stigma is still there.

For those who go to New Look and simply want to look around the Plus Size section Inspire screams embarrassment it instinctively separates the so called “regular” size clothes from the larger. This is just pulling consumer away, you may think, if you know you're that size why are you embarrassed?, size is always a sensitive subject and especially in the fashion industry.  The campaign #droptheplus really highlights this.

With River Islands new plus size range upcoming, it will be interesting to see if other leading retailers like Topshop (who only offer up to a size 16 uk!) ,will be soon to join and if this means the stigma will settle down. Some may find the sectioning better as it is then easier to find the clothes that fit but to other the products being mix is all they want. As plus size fashion is becoming more integrated it seems fit that the clothes should too.
