Barbies for boys and toy guns for girls is still seen as a weird concept for many people, all though I have personally found the ‘Tomboy’ personality for girls is far less frowned upon publicly, well at least to me but you many of found something different. However feminine toys for boys is seen as a massive no to many people and parents.
I have worked at a leading children's toy store which sells various different pieces of merchandise, its is an highly popular brand that as well a house hold name for almost 2 years this September. And I have seen many different types of parents and children come in and out of the store.
A lot of children toys have a very specific aimed gender and i used to hear parents tell there children ‘no that’s for girls’ or ‘don’t be silly thats too girly’ or even ’no that far to pink’. I think thats such a shame, just because a toy many be seemed to on gender wouldn't you rather let you child have what they want and what would make them happy. Even small thing because in reality some toys are aimed at bother for example a bowling set, just because its pink or blue doesn't mean bowling is just for a boy or girl. Many children's toys are simply a change of colour. Gender neutral colours would be so much easier, don't you think.
However I do want to say, I’ve seem girl get superhero costumes and boys receive princess dolls and I cant think of anything better. The longer I have worked there the more and more I've seen the change in parenting views, they are simply buying to make their child happy. Although many do mention the judgements they may receive from the grandparents. Even if you have not been brought up to receive every aspect of gender mixes, I don't see why people as parents would hold their children back from the same.
